5 Expert Tips For Caring For Your Feet At A Wedding

Sore feet and rubbing heels can prevent you from having the time of your life on the dancefloor, whether you're a wedding guest or the bride and groom. You can pamper your feet during the wedding season by following these five top tips from Avalia Shoes.

Weddings are some of the most memorable days of our lives, so it's critical that we enjoy them without being distracted by sore feet or painful shoes. However, we tend to be on our feet all day, from dancing the night away to that all-important walk down the aisle. Here are five of our top tips for looking after your feet at weddings to help you stay comfortable and celebrate until the wee hours of the morning.

New shoes should be broken in

The first golden rule for any occasion is to never wear new, unworn shoes. It's always a good idea to try on your shoes beforehand and walk for short distances to see if there are any problem areas, especially if you're wearing high heels. Breaking in your shoes will stretch and soften them slightly, preventing any stiff material from digging into your feet. You can always walk these short distances indoors to avoid getting your wedding shoes dirty before the big day.

Purchase high-quality shoes

As a bride or groom, you will undoubtedly put a lot of thought into your wedding attire. While the dress and suit are obviously the stars of the show, make sure that your footwear is not an afterthought. When it comes to bridal shoes, a lower heel height, a block heel, or a wedge will provide far more stability than towering stilettos.

Try some high-heel hacks

It's important to consider the placement of the heel when shopping for high-heeled shoes. Avoid those with the spike of the high heel placed directly at the back of the shoe, as this can put extra pressure on your toes. Instead, heels that sit directly on the ball of your foot can relieve some of this pressure, making walking (and dancing) more comfortable.

If your high heels have an ankle strap or are too tight on the back of your heel, you might be surprised to learn that a strategically placed roll-on deodorant can make all the difference. Apply a generous layer of deodorant to the areas where your shoes will rub to prevent slipping and to create a protective barrier between you and your heels.

Arrive prepared

No matter how much you break in new shoes — or wear a comfortable pair of old standbys — your feet aren't always prepared for a night on the dancefloor. As a precaution, keep a few extra blister plasters, gel inserts, or roll-on deodorant in your handbag or suit pocket at all times. If all else fails, you can take a quick dance break, massage any aches and pains, and return to the stage as relaxed as possible.
